I'm Laura Villegas, a certifying Doula with DTC (Doula Training Canada), a 100% Canadian organization, approved by the Association of Ontario Doulas (AOD) that offers training and certification for birth workers across the country and internationally. (Learn more about DTC here).
Why I became a doula
In my early twenties, curious about fertility and pregnancy, I explored the possibility of becoming a midwife. Then, when that curiosity lead me to discover about doulas and what they do, it felt like a revelation and my first thought was: "who in their right mind would ever give birth without a doula?".
This new knowledge further motivated me and deepened my desire to help women and families have a fulfilling and empowering experience during birth and the postpartum. I soon started my training and embarked on a journey of constant learning and amazement.
A bit more about me
I am the third of four children from a messy and happy family from Colombia, where I lived for the first two decades of my life. Then I met my best friend and now husband Sam across the ocean, in England and our adventure has taken us to Canada.
I have spent a few years of my life living in three different countries in L‘Arche communities, building relationships with people from different cultures with and without disabilities. These experiences have opened my eyes and my heart to all the possible expressions of being human and I feel honored to be able to support people from all backgrounds and walks of life as they navigate the excitement and challenges of pregnancy and parenthood.
I am also a mother of two beautiful babies who look after me from heaven.
